a theatre director and university lecturer.
Most recently, in 2005, he directed A Winter's
Tale for a national tour in South Africa.
His directorial credits include Mozart's Cosi
Fan Tutte [Opera West, Perth, Australia]; Shakespeare's Twelfth
Night [National Arts Festival, South Africa], The Merry
Wives of Windsor [Texas Shakespeare Festival], The Taming
of the Shrew [Virginia Shakespeare Festival]; Ionesco's The
Lesson [Edinburgh Fringe Festival], Lorca's Blood Wedding,
Weiss' Marat/Sade as well as many, many others.
Mr. Newmark has been a guest speaker on Shakespeare
at conferences and seminars in South Africa, England, Australia
and America. He has lectured on both Shakespeare and drama at
Rhodes University [South Africa], University of Oxford, Cambridge
University, British American Drama Academy [England]; University
of Western Australia, Stanford University, OPUS/State University
of New York, Williams University, Massachusetts, San Diego State
University, San Diego Unified School District [USA], as well as
The International Shakespeare Globe Centre [London and Los Angeles].
